I am an experienced Counsellor and Psychotherapist who has worked with a wide variety of clients. Some of the issues being; abuse; anxiety; bereavement; depression; relationship issues; loss; low self-esteem; low confidence; domestic violence; childhood issues and people feeling stuck in their lives.
Prior to qualifying as a Therapeutic Counsellor I worked in a competitive corporate industry. I therefore understand the pressures of working in a demanding environment with a diverse range of people and the issues involved.
I consider the main element to a successful outcome relies upon the positive relationship which the client and I grow together in the counselling room. My training in various therapeutic models allows me to tailor the therapy to suit each client's unique needs. I offer support through this experience in a safe environment where each client can be honest without the fear of being judged. By providing a safe environment in which to be listened to, we can then develop an understanding of the difficulties, finding a solution which is right for that client.
When counselling couples who are experiencing relationship difficulties, I often find the main issue is a loss of emotional connection where one, if not both, no longer feels safe in the relationship. This emotional indifference may be linked to various experiences during their relationship or pain from earlier relationships. If a couple are willing to explore a different way of doing things and change destructive patterns through relationship counselling I can offer them a better understanding of each other and the opportunity to experience new behaviour that leads to positive outcomes.
I believe counselling should be an empowering process. Every individual has the potential to grow and develop in fulfilling ways. Whilst each of us are unique, often life's problems are caused by relationships with others, either in our daily living or from when we were younger. Engaging in this process can enable a better understanding of yourself and offer healthier and more fulfilling relationships with others which will sustain in all aspects of life.
